Our fall trip journal entries are going to be quite different! Some days we'll use music and video to remember our trip. Others will be a variety of photos, music, and video. Music is some that Jim plays...some we just like...some our friend Gene Neyer plays on his accordion or Donnie Attaway on his banjo. Yeah...it's going to be quite unusual!

Day 1 - Saturday, September 15
Just a little side note on Gloria's, a Salvadoran restaurant. If you have an opportunity to eat there, do! It's quite authentic and delicious!

Day 2 - Sunday, September 16
One reason we came to Allen on Saturday was to allow time for us to go to church before Abby's musical. It's always quite interesting to see where we wind up. We thought we'd go to 1st Baptist in Frisco; but got there early so decided to see where the musical was going to be held. When we did that, we found Grace Church just right down the road!

Day 3 - Monday, September 17
Happy birthday to Grandson, Kaiden!
Just a long day of hot weather and riding to get to Gene & Michelle's! As we traveled along, we worked on ideas for the children's sermon for Chad and Melaina...Found the treats to send to them and then I designed the cards to attach to each package. We also wrote the script idea; but left it to them to tweak it to fit themselves.

Day 4 - Tuesday, September 18
Started out early trying to beat the heat. Just what do we do as we travel along the highway once the children's sermon is done. Well, sometimes I pull a really silly stunt like trying to refill my drink mug while we're going down the highway at 75 miles an hour. Yep...that doesn't work too well! I, also, check Facebook and messenger which is how we found out that Helen Smith has a brother in Stockton, KS, who owns 183 Lanes. Therefore, we decided to make that our lunch stop. Another way to keep us entertained, is to use my iPhone to look up places we pass or places we will come to. That is how I found the Pony Express Station in Gothenburg, NE!
Our choice of motel in North Platte was chosen by recommendation of Steve Whitfield. And, was that a winner! Not only was the Husker Inn clean, quaint, and inexpensive but...we were given homemade brownie squares, chicken noodle casserole, a box of fresh fruits and a huge slab of homemade rhubarb pie! Quite a haul!

Day 5 - Wednesday, September 19
Maybe Jim's navigator made a slight tactical error in planning this leg of the trip. It just seemed better to take the long way to Custer, SD, by going to Wall, SD first. Just added 2 hours to the trip. However, I didn't plan on hitting a stretch of the South Dakota border where road construction had left the highway without any asphalt, but with plenty of wet caliche! Plus, the no chance of rain wound up completely wrong as we were in fog and drizzle most of the day. Still a fun, cold, messy time!

And that brings us to the end of Part 1 of our Fall Trip. Thanks for riding with us!
