A Little More Grandparent Time

Saturday, August 4 - Saturday, August 11, 2012
Saturday, August 4
Barbara:  After trading Alexander and Abby for Randi, and saying our good-byes to everyone, Randi, Jim, and I pointed Big V toward Holiday Villages where we would exchange the motor home for the car before heading home to Mineola. As the collage shows, we were lucky to have room for Randi in the car!
As always, the first thing we do when we return to Mineola is go by Wood Memorial to see Edith.
Once home and rested, Randi could hardly wait to chauffer her grandfather around to get the mail and once again go visit with Granny. This time TJ was there so Jim captured that visit.

Saturday night while stepping out of the pool at Terrell, Jim pulled something in his knee and can barely walk. We can foresee a trip to the doctor in his immediate future. However, this did not keep him from joining Randi and me at the table to play games this evening.

Sunday, August 5-Saturday August 11
Between driving, cooking, and Vacation Bible School, our week with Randi would fly by!

Randi chose to participate in Vacation Bible School at our church by helping with the Arts & Crafts. In no time at all, she proved just how capable and responsible she could be! To say Jim and I were proud to be able to say “that’s our granddaughter!” is certainly an understatement!

From Sunday to Wednesday, Jim found himself confined to the house under doctor’s orders. He basically was told to “behave himself and rest that knee” after being given a shot and some meds.
Therefore on Tuesday, I took Randi to one of my favorite places, The Tea Room in Quitman where we enjoyed a wonderful lunch and then some shopping for “bling.”

It took no time at all for Randi to learn that evening visits with Granny included taking her some special treat. What a joy to have a “cook” in the house besides me! Thanks, Randi!
We learned a new recipe at VBS today so Randi thought Granny should enjoy it.
Jim’s delivering some banana bread to the staff at Wood Memorial. We are so blessed to have such wonderful people to give Edith the care she needs and deserves.

Big Red ice cream, 9’s, and Chicken Foot. Great way to end a wonderful day!

I decided I should write down the Big Red recipe just in case the grandkids one day want it and I’m not around to ask.

2 or 3 large bottles of Big Red soda

2 cans of Eagle Brand Milk

4 or 5 mashed bananas

Dump all ingredients in the ice cream freezer and churn away. Yummy!

Not only did Randi make friends with the little kids and the VBS workers, but she and the teens of the church quickly found common ground.

The week has flown by!
Since we’ve been so busy with VBS and Granny this week, we decided Friday night to take Randi to Waco to stay in a motel and chill before delivering her to her parents Saturday morning. Leah decided to drive over and join us. Fun times!

.+++ ++++
While Jim was getting ready Saturday morning, Randi “taught” me to put some “sass” in my poses!

Once we were all ready, we drove over to Temple where we met John and Carol at IHOP for a meal and the return of Randi.
During the course of the meal, I think I finally made Randi blush with one of my comments.

Once we said our good-byes to Randi, John, and Carol, Jim and I had to make a flying trip to Richardson to return Abby and Alexander’s car seats and backpacks that accidentally were left in Mineola.
Andy was out of town but we found the kids and Heather puttering around the house after making cookies.

Jim and I lucked out because the cookies were finished and the kids picked one out for each of us as a treat!

After taking photos, we jumped in the car and made it back to Mineola in time to greet Heidi and Hannah who were returning the keys to Big V since they had used her several times while we were gone to Virginia.

It seems only appropriate that we end this journal entry with the same quote we used last week since this was another wonderful week with another one of our grandchildren.
It’s been a great two weeks!
