February certainly started with us in the travel mode...One of our favorite places to stop for a short break is Buckee's. This store always intrigues us with their variety of merchandise. Today it was their t-shirts/shorts, and wood signs that grabbed our attention. I can always count on Jim finding the very item that will cause the most laughter!

Monday-Wednesday February 6-8
Hitting the road fairly early, Jim and I were making our way to League City when I realized that we would be going close to Katy, TX, where a former Lubbock student and her husband Greg live. Using Messenger, I was able to hook up with Kristin and, fortunately, this active couple were actually home and available for a short visit. Once again, I find myself grateful for Facebook and the way it reconnects people!
Even with our stop in Katy, we were able to arrive in League City before the suburban traffic rush, especially on Super Bowl week-end, which is a great thing! Just realized I haven't explained why we were headed for LC so let me correct that. Back in Lubbock, TX, in 1971 my first husband and I lived on 53rd Street in our first home. Two doors down lived Joyce and Gary who became our great friends! And, though the years and miles have separated us, our friendship remains strong. After Jim and I married, they drove all the way to Liberal from Maryland just to check him out and immediately became his friends, too!

Sunday, February 5Yesterday no one was in the mood or position to have a camera focused on them so today became the first photo op day! Our first activity today was to attend the Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church with Joyce and Gary. Then we had lunch on the patio with Gary taking time to brag just a little on his orange tree. And, of course, at the end of every meal, it's time to feed the ducks! And, boy, do they know it, as they wait patiently for us to finish our meal.

Monday-Wednesday February 6-8Time with Joyce and Gary seems to fly by and yet we don't really do much but enjoy each other's company! Jim and Gary went to the gym each morning while Joyce and I, well, I think all we did was talk! One day we went to see Hidden Figures which is definitely a must see movie! And, on Tuesday evening, Joyce and Gary were gracious enough to allow us to invite our precious great niece Kimberly, her husband Brent, and baby Riley over for a visit. Since we had never met Brent nor seen Riley, this was quite a treat! After a leisurely breakfast on Wednesday, we gathered for one more photo before Jim and I drove towards San Antonio. And, once again, finding a Buckee's for a short break brought us in contact with a pig and Buckee himself!
Maybe next year we can travel like this:

Thursday, February 9TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) at the Henry Gonzales Convention Center began our morning. Jim is the state chair for the National Band Association and he was presenting awards to four honor band directors.
Next stop...son John's home where we'll spend the week-end!

Friday-Sunday, February 10-12While the kids were at work on Friday, Jim and I decided to go back downtown and wander the exhibits. First rattle out of the box, we ran into Justin and Adah who are in the Lake Country Symphonic Band with Jim. It can be a small world.
After work, the kids brought our great grands (Rhett and Bowman) over for the weekend. What a joy they are to be around! Bowman, the youngest, is very possessive of Poppie and gets very annoyed with me when I tell him that Poppie is my son! He doesn't approve of that at all! John brought Carol and me flowers which we enjoyed thoroughly. And, after a spaghetti supper fixed by Carol, we all played 99. No pictures of Randi and Nick were allowed as this was their day off and they wanted to enjoy vegging, which Jim and I can understand thoroughly!
Saturday morning began very lazily...just the kind of morning we enjoy. And, as one can tell, Bowman and his Poppie are never far apart. Once we got into gear, we headed to the local theatre to see Sing. And, then after Nick and Randi got off work, we all went to a great place called Bigg's to eat supper. It is a very child friendly place as well as a wonderful burger joint!

I know that I've already posted these pics in a different collage; but I like this design and since I'm doing the journal this month, I get to put what I want on the pages! Therefore...a summary of our San Antonio time...
On the trip home, we didn't find a Buckee's but we did spend a little time in West, TX, at the Czech Stop where I could hardly "bear" Jim's "horsing" around!
Jim and I, for those who don't know us well, do not enjoy staying put which can cause some problems when things like cleaning house, figuring our taxes, and every day chores have to be done. Neither of us are procrastinators until it comes to the above mentioned items. Therefore, we were "dark" (in theatrical terms) from Monday to Friday as far as our activities were concerned.

Happy 69th Birthday to brother Ernie Little!!!!!
We had to go to the Way-back Machine for this photo...

Today we said enough is enough! Nothing better to clear your head than a ride on Taz!

Sunday, February 19
We rewarded our good behavior and accomplishments this week by using Taz to take us to church. As one can tell by the middle photo, our return to church after a 2 week hiatus was documented by a special greeting committee of two, Stacy and Gary!
Our children's sermon was based on Genesis 1:27...
I know this is rather unorthodox, but...one of our church friends named Brent reminds me so much of my son John that it makes me smile every Sunday morning! Brent is such a good sport about this and humors this old lady which I greatly appreciate. So today I told him, I'd like to take his pic to show son John...he allowed me that pleasure. Thanks, Brent!

Happy birthday to son John!
Okay, so maybe this photo was taken about 38 years ago. Happy 48th, John!
Children's sermon today was...
Leah sent a picture of Kaiden displaying the "little" bit of nothing but love items we sent.
FaceTime with our grandchildren in Virginia always brings a smile to our faces and sunshine to our day! And, yes, I know there is a way to take a picture right from the camera; but since I don't know how and are too afraid to try, I just take a pic of the camera. Where there's a will, there is a way!
Sunday evening found us in Sulphur Springs joining our church friends in a special service. Jim and I were way early so took the time to take photos of ourselves.

Monday-Tuesday, February 27-28
We drove to Cleburne on Monday evening since a Bovina friend of Jim's had died and his funeral was early Tuesday morning. It seemed easier to leave band rehearsal Monday night and hit the road than it did to have to leave in the wee morning hours of Tuesday.
Leah sent a picture of Kaiden displaying the "little" bit of nothing but love items we sent.
And, since this is Pancake Day in Liberal, KS, we decided to polish off a stack of pancakes in honor of this occasion. Jim put a fried egg on top of his...I just can't get that brave yet.
