A “Little” Overview of February
Busy!
++++++
Biggest event,
in my opinion, was the loss of a dear friend. According to the dictionary, a
friend is “emotionally
close: somebody who trusts and is fond of another.” And, as our parents always
reminded us and we, in turn, warned our kids, not all friends are good for you.
It was such a friend that I lost on February 17th as I gave up my
cigarettes.
++++++
Started the
month with game nights each Thursday with Gene & Michelle, Gene &
Carolyn, and Jim & me.
++++++
A trip out to
Gene & Michelle’s to check out their new carpet and improvements in the
house.
++++++
Unexpected visitor from
Mississippi …Johnny Banister.
++++++
February 11th
was Edith’s 89th birthday which we celebrated at the nursing home
with a home cooked meal that Jim and I took over.
++++++
Jim subbed as choir
director Sunday morning and that evening YFBC held their annual Valentine
dinner with Jeremy & Emily being voted King & Queen while Amber won a
spot as Attendant.
++++++
14th and 15th
found us hustling to prepare big celebration of Edith’s birthday at home with a
Valentine theme. We surprised Edith by inviting: Gene & Michelle
(keyboard), Gene (accordion) & Carolyn, Jim (trumpet) & me, TJ, David
& Beth (Edith’s preacher), Cherrie, her sister Tommie, (friends of TJ), Angela
& Ladd, Bruce (cousins). Entertainment was a medley of Big Band era tunes
played by our musicians. Fun! Fun! Fun!
++++++
Right after the party,
Jim & I rushed to the church where we were blessed once again to keep
little Jeremiah while his parents met with the youth of the church.
++++++
February 18th…helped
serve at the luncheon at church honoring the Yantis Volunteer Firemen/women
++++++
Other blessings this
month included the opportunity for Jim to go spend a week with Jean as her
private chauffer to and from Lovington for chemo treatments. Since the weather
was not going to cooperate and let him take the cycle, our friends Gene &
Michelle loaned me their extra car while I stayed here in Mineola to be with
Edith and Bonita. How blessed we are with friends who so willingly loan their
vehicle! Jim left after church on the 19th and went to Abilene and
spent the night at Dandy’s…then on the 20th he made a quick trip to
Roswell to see my sister and her daughter Lynette who had just had a baby! He
also saw his brother Jerry, but didn’t take any photos there.
++++++
Meanwhile back at the
ranch! I enjoyed time with friends Heidi and Carolyn after a serious haircut.
Oh, my!
++++++
While Jean rested after
one of their trips to Lovington, Jim once again prowled the city of Artesia
capturing the uniqueness and pride through the sculptures around town.
++++++
And, I went out to the
lake to visit Gene & Michelle (driving their vehicle, of course!)
++++++
I found pics of Little
Jimmy on Whit’s page and thought…”Oh, we must have these,” so I made a collage.
While Jim was in
Artesia, Nancy’s uncle passed away so Jim drove Beck to Roswell to catch a
plane to Dallas to meet up with her folks and later Jim, while in Lovington, visited
his mother-in-love, Maria who is in a nursing home there.
++++++
Now, the original game plan
was for Jim and I to meet in Abilene on the 25th and exchange
vehicles so he could give Gene & Michelle their car back, leaving him the
cycle in Mineola. But, the thought of saying hi and bye was not appealing so we
both were in Artesia on the 26th and 27th. Then he left
little A on the 28th in the borrowed car while I stayed with Jean
for a while. And, of course, since Nancy, Jerry, and Beck were back, a
Terpening bash to send Jim on his way seemed in order.
The 29th
found Nancy, Susie, Jean, and I at the usual Wednesday Chaos lunch without
Jerry who had to work. However, being a little slow on the uptake, I didn’t get
a Nancy pic. Just know she was broken-hearted!
And, that ends another
month in the Little book of life.
