Sunday…April 22
We welcome James William Farnham V who entered this world today in Lenexa, KS! The proud parents are Whitney and James Farnham, Jim’s daughter and son-in-law. Whitney and Jim have asked us to wait a while before going up there so we’re patiently (well, as patiently as we can) awaiting pictures! Little Jimmy weighed 8 lbs 2 oz…wow!
We returned to Artesia from Ruidoso this morning after a relaxing week-end, though Jim was feeling on the puny side so he took a nap while I did something…nothing important, I’m sure.
Finally went over to see Edith around 4:00 and then made a standard Wal-Mart run. Eventually we walked over to Jean’s just to catch up on how her week-end in Amarillo went.
Monday, April 23
Jim had the urge to go connect with the earth so he went out to pull weeds, move our bird feeder, etc. Though the bird feeder looked nice where it was, we never took into consideration that those hungry creatures would dig into our lava rocks looking for spilt seed and in the process they would throw the rocks here, there and yonder! Plus, they kept leaving their “calling cards” (if you get my drift) all over the patio! Guess we city folks will learn a little at a time!

Anyway, after doing laundry and going to Wally World one more time, Jim fixed the bird feeder where I can still see it out my window while I work on the computer and he can see it from his work area, too…finally even captured some activity around it. Notice that the wind is really blowing the feeder. (on right)
Otherwise, it was a quiet evening. Still no word from Jim or Whitney about the baby.
Tuesday, April 24
Goodness! I slept in today…7:30 before I got up to find that Jim had been working outside since 6:30! It was a gorgeous morning so I went out and helped hoe weeds by the boat barn while Jim continued around the fence line. While he finished up, I went in to get lunch fixed.
Yea! We finally heard from Jim about 3:30 this afternoon! Whitney had a rough day yesterday, but is up and moving about today. Both she and the baby are doing fine. Later Whitney called and we found out more about Little Jimmy. He has a little bit of dark brown hair, Whitney’s nose and Jim’s mouth and chin. (He also has 10 toes and 10 fingers!) He was 8lbs 2 oz. and 18 inches long. We have been assured that he is quite handsome. We are anxiously awaiting photos! And, when we do…expect to see them also!
Wednesday, April 25
We started the day off by working around the rock garden trying to get weeds pulled and hoed out. Then it was hit the shower since today is Wednesday and Edith, Jim and I were joining Jean, Jerry, Nancy and Susie for lunch at Chaos.
After a little nap, Jim (and then later me) resumed working around Jean’s estate. It was just a gorgeous windless day…temp in the low 80’s…couldn’t have asked for better weather.
For those of you who have been with us since the beginning of our journal writing, you will remember that we talked of digging up devils heads, even sent photos to show you how yucky they are. Well, as Jim was working yesterday, he noticed that the devils heads had the prettiest flower…kind of makes the parallel of how something that is not good for
us can look so enticing and have sort of an appeal, don’t you think? Notice those thorns!

Thursday, April 26
The morning was spent doing chores around the house. Then hoe, mow, and more of each. We love being outside much more than inside. Maybe it’s because we were stuck inside so many years when we were teaching.
Friday, April 27
It was time to take Big V in for more propane so that always means deep housecleaning to do. Next on the agenda was to go over to visit with Edith while we did some laundry. Later over to Jean’s to help the clan eat some fish that Paul had caught. Always fun to visit with them, especially when Susie and James come over from Hobbs.
Saturday, April 28
This was a Jim day (he’s the only one who did anything!)…First, he went down to check the mail and brought us burnt offerings for breakfast from Sonic! (And, I was just bragging last night that the service and food was better now…scratch that!) Then he took the Vibe over to Edith’s to wash and vacuum it while I did absolutely nothing newsworthy!
Hurray! We finally got to see a photo of Little Jimmy, but it’s copyrighted so we can’t share it with you. You’ll just have to take our word for it that he is absolutely precious! We even got to see those 10 toes and fingers!
Just as we were getting ready to post this and send it out, Jim got an email from Whitney with not one,
not two,
but three photos of Little Jimmy the 5th
; and lucky you get to see each one of them! Count those blessings!
Proud Gramps and Grams one more time!
